This place is well worth a visit. In the rooms of the Castle Mint on the Second Courtyard, you’ll discover the fascinating world of book illustration – as well as one of the most beautiful views of Český Krumlov. The works on display here have travelled around the world and caught the attention of the King of Spain and the Empress of Japan. Most of them were created in a time when artists worked slowly, by hand and with extraordinary care. Nearly 800 original works by 33 European illustrators make this a collection unlike any other in the Czech Republic.

The palace interiors and exhibition architecture, which received an award at the 2025 Czech Grand Design Awards, draw you straight into the world of fairy tales. Bold colours, unusual materials and an original modular exhibition system transform the historic Baroque interiors into something that feels more like an art installation than a traditional exhibition. The result is a place you’ll want to return to.
